About us
The Innovation Clinic is North Denmark Region’s healthcare innovation unit, working closely with clinical practice. Our mission is to support the innovation process – from idea to solution – for employee-driven healthcare innovations that create value for patients, healthcare professionals and society.
What is The Innovation clinic?
The Innovation Clinic was established in 2009 with a distinctive focus on employee-driven innovation rooted in clinical practice. Inventions and ideas may arise from challenges encountered in everyday clinical practice as well as from clinical research findings.
The Innovation Clinic also serves as the technology transfer (TTO) function for North Denmark Region and is responsible for the portfolio of patent applications, granted patents and commercial agreements related to these inventions.
Our innovation efforts aim to create value for patients, citizens, healthcare professionals and the healthcare system. This value may include higher-quality patient care, improved diagnostics and treatment, more integrated care pathways and increased patient safety.
It may also include solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare system, free up workforce capacity and resources, or contribute to a better working environment for healthcare professionals.
The role of The Innovation Clinic
The Innovation Clinic actively contributes to the development of the healthcare system in Northern Denmark
– for the benefit of patients, healthcare professionals and North Denmark Region. We do this by:
- Promoting a culture of innovation that creates value across research and clinical practice. Innovation
should be a natural part of everyday practice and provide a shared foundation for development and
collaboration with external partners across the organisation. - Supporting the development and implementation of innovative solutions that create value for patients
and clinical practice. Our innovation efforts are based on specific clinical needs and the latest research
and are developed in close collaboration with patients and relatives, industry, public-sector
organisations and civil society.
Our approach
The Innovation Clinic’s work is grounded in the 360° Health Innovation Accord, which places the individual – the person the healthcare system exists to serve – at the centre. The 360° Health Innovation Accord provides a guiding framework encompassing eight key aspects that come into play when developing and implementing healthcare innovation.
Healthcare innovation is therefore about more than technology. The development and implementation of new healthcare solutions also depend on factors such as the competencies and skills of patients and healthcare professionals, IT infrastructure, organisational structures and more.
The framework also addresses the structural conditions that innovation projects need to navigate. In this way, it provides a practical bridge from idea and research findings to pilot testing, implementation and routine practice. It can also be used as a tool for dialogue with hospital department management, health councils, municipalities, general practice, companies and foundations.
